Spellbinders Indie Collection Blog Hop - Giveaway | Layered Oak Tree

July 11, 2018

Hi from the north of Scotland. Welcome to my blog!

Today I'm taking part in a massive blog hop with giveaways organized by Spellbinders to celebrate the release of their exclusive Indie Collection...  this collection is pure awesomeness!  (find giveaways information at the bottom of this post)

There are 27 die sets in this release,   8 of them with coordinating stamps and for today  I used  Layered Oak Tree  Etched Dies.
Layered Oak Tree  Etched Dies includes a tree trunk with bare branches and two different treetops. Each layering piece brings a unique design. Use separately, it can be used for all seasons.
You can find complete Indie  collection here!
These cards are easy, quick and they look beautiful in flesh. I love them! they measure 4 -3/4" x 4-3/4" inches and  I also made matching envelopes using the envelope punch board.  You can make them in any size.

The approximate size of the tree, when assembled, is 3-1/2"  x 4" inches.

These were actually the last cards I made when I sat to play with Layered Oak Tree  Etched Dies although they were the design I imagined first.

I  kept thinking that a monochromatic idea was too simple and maybe a bit dull so I tried to make other cards adding a hint of colour . Although these 2 cards are my favourite,   I decided to share all the projects I made with you.
So I made other three cards with a similar concept, one of them is a shaker card. For these cards, I also used Happy Expression Stamp Set and Dies by Spellbinders also part of this release.
For this shaker card, I used Copics to colour the treetops and I spray them with alcohol.  I added tattered rose distress oxide ink in the background just to make the tree trunk visible.

I stamped the sentiment with Tea Dye Distress ink as black ink seemed to be too dark for this composition and  I die cut the large sentiment ( Happy)  out of Welsh Gold Glitter Cardstock.
I die cut the tree from watercolour paper and I used Zigs ( water-based markers)  to add different colours here and there on the treetop, then I sprayed with water and the colours bleed into each other to get that watercolour effect.

For this card, I added a layer of die cuts in Craft Perfect Copper Mine mirror cardstock and I heat emboss the sentiment "Birthday" using copper embossing powder.
I also tried to make one card in colours ... just to see how the die cuts look. What do you think?

Note: the Exclusive collection is only available at select online and local independent retailers. This collection is not available for purchase from Spellbinders Online Store

  29. So beautiful. I would have never imagined pastel trees, but yours are gorgeous. I visited your country a couple of years ago (a little village named Luss near Loch Lomand) and it was so wonderful. You must be inspired by the beauty surrounding you every time you look out your window. I love my home state of Texas, but nothing I've seen here is as breathtakingly beautiful.
