Simon Says Stamps Celebrate You Blog Hop Day 2 + Giveaway
May 17, 2019
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog and to "Simon Says Stamp Celebrate You Blog Hop - Day 2". make sure to check the inspiration on the "Day 1" of this hop too!
For today I used Filigree Butterfly wafer die and loads of glitter to create super easy birthday cards. The stamped sentiments are from Big Birthday Greetings stamp set.
For today I used Filigree Butterfly wafer die and loads of glitter to create super easy birthday cards. The stamped sentiments are from Big Birthday Greetings stamp set.
I really wanted to add a contrasting element behind the beautiful Filigree Butterfly, I tried several things and I found that glitter could be a great alternative.
I'm not going to lie... I have glitter everywhere. Glitter is hard to control. Thankfully I got a powerful Dyson (vacuum) that is sparkling too at the moment. It did help to collect most of the glitter tho.
Below a 3 - minutes video to show you how I made this. Although is terrible easy is good to see a cardmaking party in real life.
I had a real play with this stuff... over 5 hours throwing glitter and about 3 hours making decisions about how to put the cards together and finding easy ways to use the dies etc... have a look at my Press'n Seal tip in the video.
Once the design is done it will be easy and quick to reproduce... and yes my craft room was looking as if a glitter bomb exploded. lol - fun!
My best friend when crafting with glitter is the Nuvo sweep brush ... trust me, you need that brush. After having one I had to get another one to make sure if I miss one I have the other one at hand. ( I misplace things very often in my craft room- nightmare)
How I did this
I know this is nothing new but it is still fun to remember simple techniques
- I simply use double-sided adhesive tape in different thickness on a piece of cardstock.
- I then pilled off the backing of the tape
- I applied different colours of Nuvo Glitter on the exposed adhesive.
- I did one colour of glitter at the time
When creating the backgrounds for the cards today I also remember a technique I saw over a month ago for the very first time in a card created by my friend Tracy Freeman and she inspired me to give it a try so I applied in the card above her technique using stencils and glitter.... stay tuned as I'm editing a video to show you exactly how to do this and succeed to create stunning custom patterned glitter paper or backgrounds.
As soon as my video is ready I'll share my findings with you here in my blog, on my Youtube channel and over my Instagram here!
I used 1cm and 5mm double-sided tape. I also adhere in different ways mixing thicknesses so make wider or narrower stripes.
I used a square frame dies to create a frame. I glued the butterfly on the centre of the frame using Nuvo deluxe adhesive and I tick the toper on a 5"x5" inches card bases.

ReplyDeleteI LOOOVE what you've done with your cards, Bibi!!! Would you believe, I only have TWO different colors of glitter???? Clear & Red. Yep, that's IT! BUT, seeing your cards has made me WANT MORE!!! LOL Wait till my husband hears!!! ;) Every time I use it, I find glitter on family members! LOL WILL LOVE to hear the technique you mentioned above!!! ;)A SUPER JOB!!!! ;)<3
ReplyDeletethank you ... You can use those colours to start with :) . I know exactly where the glitters goes: everywhere. My heat tool was smelling funny.. like burned plastic.. guess what? there was glitter inside it lol
DeleteThese Filigree Butterflies are already pretty on their own but we all know glitter is always a great addition to 'umph up' a card for the WOW factor. Bibi, you have certainly nailed it on these. Beautifully done as always.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your glittery set of cards - so fun:)
ReplyDeleteFinding glitter everywhere is the price we all pay for beautiful cards. Love how you created these backgrounds to highlight the simple white filigree butterflies...lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! I have several butterfly stamps and punches. I may have to add the SSS Filigree Butterfly Die to my collection.
ReplyDeleteI love blog hops because they inspire me to create--thank you.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection of cards.
ReplyDeleteI like how delicate the butterfly is, and how you used white since you were going to use so much color elsewhere. NICE

ReplyDeleteI've done this technique before and it is a lot of fun and yep, very messy! But well worth it!! Your cards are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteLove all the colors on your card! 💖TFS
ReplyDeleteI love these cards - glitters and butterflies are wonderful together. I feel like I live and breathe glitter when we use it - that even my dog gets glittered! If only there was a magic wand to clean it up - even a Dyson isn't good enough sometimes!
ReplyDeleteoh dear you make me giggle.... I guess you can use the Dyson on you dog. seriously it won't cause any harm. I vacuum my children when they get glittery or dusty and they found it hilarious... but you are right it takes a while to get rid of all the glitter. I have glitter in my hair .. it feel like if I went to the beach >lol
DeleteLove the new Butterfly Filigree Die as it makes an elegant card. Just love the backgrounds you created on all your cards. So different and unique.

ReplyDeleteI do love glitter. I have found that if I burnish it with my finger fairly firmly that the glitter stays on the card and doesn't decorate the recipient. Your cards are beautiful.

ReplyDeleteBest 3 minutes ever! Your cards are incredible. I had to stop and subscribe before I could comment. I used the filigree bunny die from SSS release in March for my Easter cards. Thank you so much for showing your beautiful, glittering cards with that awesome Butterfly die, have a great weekend.
Hi there, thank you. it is black craft foam ( you get at the craft shops for under 50p and they are great cushion for stamping on the platform. ) x
DeleteThank you Bibi for your answer, I wasn't able to respond earlier, is it thick?
DeleteBecause the craft foam I know and what they sell here, I live in the Netherlands, is 1 mm.
Loose glitter is scary but your cards are lovely.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! I have to be very careful when I use glitter! One of my cat's has horrible skin allergies and she LOVES to help me craft. Unfortunately she breaks out horribly so I have to lock her out of my craft room and deep clean before she can come back in. Needless to say I don't use glitter as often as I would like
